What can you do in Châtelaillon-Plage?
Châtelaillon-Plage is well-known for its long fine sandy beach (around 3 kms), the typical houses of Belle Epoque style, the beautiful view on the islands Oléron, Ré and Aix, the regional market as well as for its thalassotherapy center.
Our insider tipps: the traditional fishermen village of the Boucholeurs.
This village has been beautifully restored over the last years after it has been damaged by a storm. Now it offers you a beautiful walk on the see wall to observe the "carrelet" or little fishermen houses as well as the bay of Fouras. Here, time stands still and nature regains its rights.
Our flat is perfectly located between Châtelaillon-Plage and the village of Boucholeurs, you can access both on foot, by bike or on rollerblades.
Family activities
Many activities are offered for children, Châtelaillon-Plage is a typical family see ressort.
Here are some activities we enjoy with our kids:
- To throw ourself in the mud and to recover our body with it, so funny and delicious!
- Biking tour along the sea with a stop in one playground in Chatelaillon or Boucholeurs (possibility to rent a bike in one of the villages)
- To spend a day in the aquatic center with chutes for all ages and a small aquatic playground for the little ones.
- Beach activities: children's club (4-10) , swimming classes, beach volley et club de voile
- Mini-golf and the playground of the théâtre de verdure
- Wednesday afternoon shows at 6:30 pm at the Théâtre de Verdure.
- Media library and tales telling at the beach on Thursdays at 5pm.
- Visit to the Yves marsh to observe the birds
- The funfair
- Dinner in one of the strow hut restaurant while waiting for the Sunset
- A nightly bath

it will depend on the evolution of the covid-19 situation and on the lockdown, therefore we hope that following events will take place this year:
3rd-5th April : The Kite and Wind Festival
July and August : Beach Outings Festival

December: Lightning celebrations, live nativity scene et bath of the banquisards (last bath of the year)
For sea lovers
To know about the tides phenomenon: the amplitude of the tides in Châtelaillon-Plage is important, take a look at the calendar of the tides which we put in the condo. Who says tide, says foreshore and in Châtelaillon-Plage, the latter is rather muddy. This explains the Brown colour of the water sometimes but also a very pleasant water temperature. Here, swimming is safe, the waves are very rarely dangerous and the phenomenon of the Baïnes is non-existent. Perfect for kids to play without danger!
Shellfish farming: taste the oysters and mussels in the Boucholeurs fishermen's huts and observe the work of the oyster farmers at low tide.
Boat cruise to discover Fort Boyard from La Rochelle, Fouras or Rochefort sur Mer.
Shellfish fishing regulations: consult the official website of Charente-Maritime to know the quantities authorized per tide and the minimum sizes of shellfish here (in french). Be careful, the coastguards often carry out checks.
